This painting is inspired by the song "Old Friends" by Simon and Garfunkel. One of my favorite songs, and has been imprinted in my mind for decades. For sure the song becomes more meaningful as time passes. "Can you imagine us years from today, sharing a park bench quietly, how terribly strange to be 70". The words haunt me.

So I'm thinking of two old friends, sitting on a park bench as they have been doing so for so many, many years. It might be Central Park or Golden Gate Park or any park. It is Autumn and the leaves are falling, the air is cool, and these two old friends are having a talk. The talk is inconsequential to you or me, but to them it's resolute. Old Friends.

Hi Everyone - I just completed this oil painting.  I'm still on my autumn kick.  I thought I'd paint a cluster of autumn leaves to show off the beautiful October colors.  I love the turning of colors of the leaves this time of year.  These brilliant, beautiful colors.  This painting is on auction at:  http://dailypaintworks.com/artists/mike-caitham-5490

This is a painting of the Downie River Bridge on Hyw. 49 in Downieville, CA. Downieville is one of the California gold rush towns.   This is a spectacular area of California's Sierra Nevada mountains, beautiful any time of year.

I painted this a couple of years ago and it has been a most popular painting.  Several prints have sold on Fine Art America, but the original is still available at a very low price.  Actually, it is currently on auction at:

California Redwoods, the tallest trees in the world. These are the most majestic trees in the world. They grow only in California and a bit of So. Oregon. 90% of the old growth trees have been cut, but fortunately the remaining strands will be preserved forever. And the best report is that the practice of selective foresting is now actually helping to increase the growth.

Here is a second painting of these magnificent trees. Hope you enjoy it. This painting is for sale and currently on auction at:

Hello,

I just completed this painting.  I love driving around on the back roads.  There are so many surprises, so many scenes.  So much to paint.  So I was driving down a country road and I saw an old brick building, and it gave me an idea to paint an old country one room schoolhouse.  This was in September, so I incorporated autumn spender.

Hi Folks,

OK, so I don't like hot weather.  I live in a city in the San Francisco Bay area and don't usually need air conditioning, as the Pacific Ocean breeze provides it naturally.  But sometimes the inversion brings extremely hot weather with no breeze.  The air turns dead and the temps rise to 100+.  This is when I head for the ocean, and this painting is from a photo I took while driving on a country road down to the cool Pacific coast.
